Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Özbil obtained his Bachelor’s degree at Istanbul Technical University, Department of Chemistry in 2007. Then, in 2008, he started his PhD at the Department of Chemistry, University of Miami, FL, USA, where he worked in the field of computational biochemistry under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Rajeev Prabhakar. In 2013, after receiving his PhD degree, he joined Prof. Victor Batista's group at the Department of Chemistry, Yale University, CT, USA, as a postdoctoral fellow. In 2015, she returned to Turkey and started her independent academic career as an Asst. Prof. at Istanbul Arel University, Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics. He joined Gebze Technical University Biotechnology Institute in 2020. In 2023, he was appointed as Assoc. Prof. in the same organization. The main research areas of his research group, “Computational Biochemistry Group@GTU”, are the elucidation of the effects of mutations on protein structures, protein-drug interactions and mechanisms of membrane proteins, the use of computational methods in biotechnological agent production and computerized drug design. Mehmet Özbil is an active member of “Turkish Chemical Society” and “American Chemical Society (ACS)” and an editor of “Journal of Research in Pharmacy” and “Frontiers in Chemistry”. He has participated in 6 TÜBİTAK-funded, 3 TÜSEB-funded, 1 ERA-NET-funded projects as an executive, researcher and consultant, and he has been the author of 33 articles.
